Discover Dubai – A Land of Endless Possibilities

By Nfor Nchamukong – The H Dubai Concierge

From a humble fishing village to a modern metropolitan, Dubai is a city that must be seen to be believed. Home to three million people, it is a melting pot of many different cultures. A city of contrasts, there is something for everyone here. There’s the glittering skyline made up of tall skyscrapers, modern malls, and luxurious hotels on one side. Then you have beaches to relax on, beautiful desert, and the Old Souks on the other.  It’s this vibrancy of Dubai that makes it one of the top travel destinations, and the best part is that most of these attractions are just a short distance from The H Dubai hotel.

Here are my top picks of Things to See and Do in Dubai:

The Relaxed Traveller

If your getaway includes relaxation on the itinerary, you are in luck. Dubai is home to endless pristine white, sandy beaches. Most beaches have all the basic services including boardwalks, restaurants, and kids’ playgrounds. The must-visit beaches are JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) Beach with the popular destination The Walk and La Mer Beach which is a complete experience that includes water sports, shopping, as well as dining.

The Kite Beach, on the other hand, is a popular destination with kite-surfers and kite flyers. Whilst the White Beach at the Atlantis resort on Palm Jumeirah is an amazing palm-frond-shaped artificial development and the Umm Suqeim Beach, also known as the Sunset beach is a popular spot for Instagram-worthy pics of the Burj Al Arab.

Skydive

The Adventurous Traveller

Dubai is the perfect destination for all the thrill-seekers out there. Brave the elevation of 452 meters to be rewarded with breath-taking views of Dubai with “At the Top” experience at Burj Khalifa. Take a plunge at Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark and don’t forget to try out the most terrifying water slides of all, the Poseidon revenge which ends up in a pool tank filled with sharks! If you love water sports, explore the underwater world while Scuba Diving at Amazing Sea World or fly above the water with Flyboarding – the coolest water sport invented!

Explore the desert for a real adventure-packed day on a Desert Safari. The fun includes dune bashing, sand-boarding, or quad biking. If you are up for a more mysterious adventure, catch your breath swaying through the desert on a camelback. As the sun sets, end your day with some Arabic cuisine and hubby bubbly at the desert camp. And if you really dare, try the highly elevated zip line with XLine Dubai Marina which sends riders hurtling more than 3,000 feet over the Dubai Marina or the Sky View Edge Walk where you walk out of a 52 stories high skyscraper! If that does not thrill you enough, take the big leap of faith by Skydiving for an out-of-the-world experience!

The Families

Dubai is a great city to keep the kids happy, and a lot of the above can be enjoyed with kids. But there are some attractions that the whole family will particularly enjoy. Play in the snow and ski at the Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates. You can also hang out with the resident Penguins here. Visit the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, at the Dubai Mall or enjoy the free-to-watch dancing water performance at The Dubai Fountain.

If theme parks are what your kids like, then Dubai Parks & Resorts and IMG World of Adventures offer many exciting rides and attractions for a full day of fun for the entire family. Fun activities for everyone, from shopping to shows, street food to fun-fair and fireworks is all on cards at the popular Global Village, while the younger one’s can experience wildlife up close at Green Planet or Dubai Safari.
